Water Sports

Imagine Tanzania a country by the great Indian Ocean, and the largest lake in Africa, the country prides in a number of water sport activities among which are some of the finest diving spots in the world on fresh-water-lakes and the ocean, boat trips, yacht trips, snorkeling, white-water rafting among others.

The waters of Tanzania are blessed a variety if reefs plus tropical fish that can best be viewed by diving off the Tanzanian mainland. In addition you can enjoy diving tips to any of the island of Tanzania such as Mafia, Zanzibar and Pemba which are located just off the country’s shoreline. For novices, you can enroll for the diving courses which are offered by several hotels plus lodges back on the mainland. So book today for a Tanzania Safari to enjoy the wonderful water adventures the country offers.

Below are some of the best water adventures you can enjoy while in Tanzania.

Snorkeling

No doubt Tanzania is a for many a snorkeling paradise with stunning reefs and a breathtaking views of Dar Es Salaam city beneath the water. Several lodges as well as diving shops offer snorkeling gear so in case you did not carry yours, there is no reason why you should miss out on this great adventure.

Scuba Diving

Tanzania opens to you some of the finest scuba diving opportunities in the world. It has four main dive locations on its shoreline and islands and these are: Msali Island on Pemba Island, Chole Bay on Mafia island Mnazi Bay at Mtwara and Mnemba Atoll on Zanzibar Island in addition to other numerous wonderful spots.

However Zanzibar is the most renowned island and there are several companies offering diving tours there followed by Mafia Island. On the other hand, Pemba Island plus the Mnazi Bay are less visited yet they offer the best diving opportunities in the country.

Most of the diving places offer courses (PADI) for beginner divers, although the most affordable and finest place to enroll for this course is at Sea Breeze Marine, a diving center located north of the city of Dar Es Salaam. From there you can extend your skills to the islands of Tanzania as you explore its marine life.

White Water Rafting in Tanzania

The official paradise of White Water Rafting in Africa is on the Zambezi River which holds Grade 5 White-Water rapids internationally recognized. The waters f river Zambezi flow fron the Victoria Falls channeling through the spectacular basalt rock-faces of the stunning Batoka Gorge, presenting a breathtaking background for adrenaline-rash White-Water-Rafting opportunity.

A Tanzania Safari on river Zambezi will reward you with skills that will make you stand out and be able to challenge other rivers in Africa.

Yacht Sailing

The yacht is a beautifully kept schooner built as a working fishing vessel in Holland in 1910. She has since been refitted in Italy and now accommodates up to six people in luxurious surroundings. Those with previous sailing experience can help sail, and those without can learn if they wish, or simply allow the friendly and experienced crew to do the sailing while you lie back, relax and enjoy the view. You can also try your hand at fishing for big game fish such as tuna, barracuda, or sailfish. There is ample space on deck for reading or simply relaxing in the sun, and the lovely wooden cabins and galley are very comfortable.

A Catamaran Sail

The catamaran is a modern luxurious lounge-boat with ample deck space for unwinding as well as sunbathing as you sail on Tanzania’s waters. It is has a living area plus a galley that are well equipped plus comfy cabins. You can take part in the sailing or learn how to sail on these waters.

Traditional Dhow Safaris or Tours

Pleasure in an opportunity of sailing in one of the traditionally made Arabic Dhows! Enjoy the Indian Ocean’s blue waters as you sail smoothly in these dhows on your adventure to visit any of the islands off the Dar Es Salaam coastline. You will have a picnic lunch on the sandy beaches that look out to the high tides right on the Indian Ocean.

Whale Sharks

Between October and March, the largest fish in the world – the Whale shark move down to the eastern coast of Africa. So this is the best time to marvel at their great sizes with some weighing to 35 tons, on Mafia Island’s west coast adjacent to Ras Mbizi Lodge.

You can also enjoy an opportunity to swim with these large fish and this is something that will for your life-time be very memorable. The best period to watch the Whale Sharks is from the end of December all through to February.

Deep Sea Fishing

Tanzania as a country prides in its exceptional Deep-Sea Fishing. This is mostly carried out in Kilwa, a place where the well-known bone-fish can be captured. However, this is also done in Southern Zanzibar, Dar Es Salaam and on Mafia Island. Special about this activity is that it requires very powerful motorboats to take you to these spots very fast.

Lake Diving

Tanzania being one of the countries in the Great Lakes Region prides of several lakes among which is Africa’s largest lake- Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganika and lake Manyara among others.

Lake diving is carried out on lake Tanganika whose waters are filled with ciclids plus catfish, and not to forget a beautiful diving backdrop with fascinating rock formations as well as swim-throughs. And as for altitude diving Lake Tanganyika is at 900meters so you don’t require over one kg!

Today, a Safari Honeymoon is one of the trendiest yet enjoyable ways to spend your honeymoon. Unique about this is the unexplainable pleasure people get from the adventure as well as serenity of the wilderness that rewards them with a very spectacular vacation rather than idleness. In this brief article I unveil to you the splendor of Tanzania as one among the finest tropical paradises in Africa with a great ambiance ideal for a honeymoon to all newly wedded couples.

Experience the Luxury Beyond Imagination

Think of a romantic candle-lit dinner just for two by the river bank as you marvel at the beautiful setting African sun, or get red rose-petals lined for you from your safari game drive car straight into your room on return from a luxurious private dinner in the African bushes. In addition to this Tanzania Safari, don’t forget the wildlife echoes that fill the night brightened by a starlit sky and there you will enjoy each other’s company at close proximity to the wonders of Mother Nature.

Take Days off Before you Safari

Believe me; following several weeks of wedding planning, the very last thing that anyone would want is rising by 5am to join in for a game drive. It would be more soothing to take a number of days on the beach or at a hotel or lodge which is no safari destination to do away with the tiredness from the wedding. It’s at this time that you get to relax for a couple of days before embarking on a busier touring program. From then on you can choose accommodation that ranges from hotels, lodges or camps. But importantly don’t forget to inform your tour-operator what you exactly prefer to see, endeavor to be specific at all times to allow them tailor an itinerary the perfectly suits your desire and budget. And it being your honeymoon, you certainly deserve to get the very best from it.

Tanzania; a Paradise with Diversity

Fortunately, special About Tanzania is that it is a paradise of the two worlds. You can enjoy the pristine beaches, warm sun and the white sand for as long as you want, and also pleasure in a safari into the verdant wilderness either in the north or south circuit of the country. As part of the northern circuit you will pleasure in splendid game-viewing about the slopes of the spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro which holds the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Parks, the Serengeti, Olduvai Gorge and Lake Manyara.

The southern circuit will reward you with an opportunity to explore the Selous which is the most unexploited of all game reserves in Africa. You will also visit the largest elephant Sanctuary in the country found in Ruaha National Park. In case you are interested in game viewing off the beaten-truck, you can request your tour-operator for a low-down in the country’s southern circuit and you will discover that it is a tranquil yet exciting ideal option for honeymooners to unwind.

Plan Earlier for a Memorable Honeymoon

For quite a memorable honeymoon, it calls for good planning. And since there are numerous safari destinations what will make each of them different is having your itinerary planned out according to your needs. You are free to forward your personal ideas about the safari to your tour operator or opt to choose an already designed safari. But whatever your preference may be, I recommend that you take a few days rest from your wedding before starting out on your honeymoon safari. A very fast-paced honeymoon after the wedding will certainly be the worst decision to make as it will not allow you time to unwind from the wedding fatigue. At the finish of your honeymoon safari I recommended that you have a few days off to rest before finally return home.

Because Tanzania is a paradise of both a Romantic Wildlife Safaris, and Honeymoon tranquility as well as comfort, with a variety of luxurious hotels, beaches and the beautiful warm sun, then why not choose Tanzania as the perfect destination to enjoy an exciting yet very memorable Honeymoon Safari.

The finest currency to bring with you to Tanzania can be US$ Dollars, or Euros or even GB Pounds. At the moment, the US$ Dollars are the safest currency ass they offer large notes of up to US$ 50 or US$ 100 which are exchanged at very good rates. However, the smaller denominations such as US$ 1 are quite hard to exchange so the only way you can away with them is through tips. It is also much recommended that tourists paying for safaris do it using larger denominations to avoid any penalties. Details …

Where to Exchange your Money in Tanzania

Banks as well as foreign currency exchange bureaus accept traveler cheques although they lower exchange rate and at times may turn out to be aggravating so it is much better to limit their use and if possible entirely avoid them. Credit cards like the Master or Visa are widely used and accepted through the country today unlike 5 years back. Important to note is that if you are planning to withdraw money using your credit card, it is better you do it in the bank as most hotels highly charge for this service. Very crucial is to inform your bank when as well as where you will be traveling so as to limit any misfortunes that may arise as you use your card.

Denominations of the Tanzania Shillingi

The local Tanzanian Shilling / Shilingi notes include TSH 10,000 in red; elephant, TSH 2,00 in brown; Zanzibar Fort, TSH 5,000 in purple; rhino, TSH 500 in green; buffalo, and TSH 1,000 in blue; former President Nyerere,. Among the available coins: TSH 20, 200, 25, 100, 10, 50 and 5 although the TSH 20, 5 and the 25 are no longer in circulation, although they are being used in the different banks, they are actually not issued for public use. Fortunately, Bureau of Exchanges where across the large cities, and the rates vary from one point to another so it is advised that you first make a comparison between at least three shops before finally making the transaction. In addition, Tanzania Hotels also offer foreign currency exchange, through at a higher rate.

Tanzania Shillingi; the Commonest Means of Payment

Payment for day-to-day purchases such as groceries is mainly done using cash. So it is very recommended that you carry some cash on you for basic expenditures like food in restaurants, cooking gas, drinks in the bar, car fueling, taxis, and any additional purchases. Of late, the large shopping malls have begun allowing Visa Cards as well as Master Cards and a few others also allow American Express. However it is strongly recommended that nonetheless you have some cash with you in case any of the machines fails since some of them are not very reliable.

Although a number of hotels and a few restaurants accept credit cards, they offer this service with an up 5% fee charge. In addition, a number of institutions persist on payments being done US Dollars, although if you have the local Shilling, you can clear up the payment with it.

How to Open a Bank Account in Tanzania

Foreign visitors are allowed to open privately owned bank-accounts with at least TSH 50,000, or USD$1,000, or even 1,000 Euros. However this can only become practical if you have either a resident or working permit, an appointment letter from your work employee, 2 passport sized photos as well as a cash deposit. All banks in Tanzania use both English plus Swahili as the communicating languages. And given that you have enough money on your account, you have the right to forward any amount of money into another country. You can also receive money from other countries to your account but this will be transferred into the currency you opened your accounted in.

Tanzania Banks; when they Operate

Tanzania banks open through the week-days from 0830 hours to 1530 hours and on Saturday from 0900hours to 1200hours. The country is served with more than 30 banks country-wide with Standard Chartered, Bank of Baroda, Citibank, Barclay’s, Stanbic and FBME standing out as the most prominent. Many of the banks offer ATM services that allow use of Visa Cards plus Master Cards. Cash is distributed in the local currency; Tanzanian Shilling with a maximum of TSH 400,000 allowed being withdrawn at a time.

Tanzania Work Permits; there are two main types issued

Tanzania issues out two different work permits and each of these requires distinct documents such as résumés, personal photographs, cover letters plus academic qualifications. There is a very special Work Permit offered particularly to those that successfully apply and have exceptional skill or academic qualifications. Such a permit is normally issued to persons in very technical occupations which are not locally available in Tanzania’s local labor sector and these may include pilots, accountants, doctors or lawyers.

Resident Permit and its Affiliated Privileges

In possession of a resident permit, your spouse and dependants are allowed to stay with you in the country for as long as the owner is working in the country. The passport is the most important document used when verifying people’s identity while in Tanzania. While in Tanzania, there are no other major documentations required except for a driver’s license for those who intend to drive.

So always endeavor to acquire a Visa whether you are having a Tanzania Safari, or a business trip or a leisure visit to the country as it is a very important requirement asked for at any of Tanzania’s check-points.

Location: Situated in Eastern Africa and neighbored by Uganda plus Kenya to the north, Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi in the south, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi to the west, and the large Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania is one of the favorite tourist destinations in the whole of Africa so feel free to enjoy any of the Tanzania Safaris.

Because of its adjacent location to the Equator, the country experiences two major climate changes; the wet season (from March to May, and the dry season (from December to March). However, the best time to visit depends in mainly what you plan to do or see.

Tanzania’s Dry Season; Calving of Wildebeests

From December till February it is the warm, dry season, while February symbols the beginning of the calving period for the country’s wildebeests. During this period, the average temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius though it may rise to 30 degrees Celsius. For that reason, it is advised that you carry majorly cotton clothing plus sun-glasses and not to forget hats for personal health purposes.

Towards the finish of February closing in to March, there are several climatic variations because the temperatures start cooling down falling to less than 20 degrees Celsius, and this period is characterized by irregular rains which increase through April as well as May. However, March is one among the best times to enjoy Game viewing.

Tanzania’s Wet Season

Heavy rains start in April and all through May, resulting into poor roads hence making access to the various tourist destinations quite challenging by road transport. For that matter unless traveling with a Seasoned-Safari-Group, it is not recommended to travel during this time of the year. Fortunately, the rains usually begin early in the morning clearing up by mid-day so there is no need for worry about being stranded indoors for long!

From June up to October, the country experiences a moderate season and it is this time that it receives most tourists, particularly between July and August. This is mainly attributed to the lower temperatures which permit tourists to travel around without worry and discomfort of the excessive heat. Furthermore, from June although to October, this is the best time to enjoy a hike on the renowned Mount Kilimanjaro. On average, the temperatures fall between 10 degrees to a maximum of 23 degrees along the Tanzanian Coast.

November; the great Eurasia Bird Migration

Finally, November symbols the beginning of yet another season of irregular rains with possibilities of explode floods. Nonetheless, through this month several bird species start arriving all the way from Eurasia, and this makes it the most ideal time to watch birds. Towards the finish of November, the temperature yet again begins to rise up to an average of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.

From this summary, you can generally notice that the temperature rarely fall below 10 degrees Celsius although the can reach as high as 30 degrees Celsius or more. However, very month symbols an exceptional event, for instance February marks the wildebeests’ calving while November marks the great Eurasia migration of birds. Therefore when you look at hotels in Tanzania make sure you have one close to what you want to see and or do.

For that matter therefore, as you book into any of the Hotels in Tanzania, ensure that you get on near to where you will be enjoying your adventure.
